Mare Care

You can rest at ease knowing that your investment will be cared for at the highest personal level, and that the future of your program will receive the vital early management it deserves in order to bring you success in the future. There is a high level of individual care that goes into our clients and their horses, ensuring that there will never occur any 'lost in the barn' experiences.

Resident mares live out their year on improved pasture, and a specialized ration fed twice-daily. Roughage is supplemented via both grass and high quality Kansas or Pecos Valley raised alfalfa hays. All pastures are sizeable and never overgrazed, and allow young foals the space to sprint, socialize, and develop their potential. Fencing consists of board or pipe and cable, and shelter is available under roomy Morton Sheds.

Post-foaling veterinary procedures are performed per the owners requests, and new foals are allowed a few days to bond with their mothers before receiving turnout. Young foals are brought in the barn nightly a week on average before permanent turnout (depending on the weather), and all foals are haltered and led with their dams to and from turnout, and during any handling.

My wife Jamie and I are using the Angel Spurs Ranch Mare Care program for one of my Quarter Race broodmares and her newborn foal. I have used them before to care for another of my mares and was really satisfied with the way she was handled. The Scheppke's treat my horses as if they were their own. From working with them and knowing them, I can assure you they would treat anyone else the same way. The Scheppke's are experienced ranch managers and are some of the best horseman I've ever known. I highly recommend the Angel Spurs Ranch to anyone needing a great place for Mare and Foal care. They do it right and are the "real deal." Bob V. Wright - Meers, Oklahoma
