Oklahoma Tracks are Doing Well

The following is an excerpt taken from the Quarter Horse News--
Continuing the national trend for Quarter Horse racing and with 12 days of racing in the charts for Blue Ribbon Downs, the legendary southeastern Oklahoma track posted a whopping 16 percent increase in live on-track handle and an increase of just over 10 percent in the export handle on this season's live races.

Top Horses Still Have Value

The results of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Old Sale are in.
Tashop, a classy son of the highly popular young sire Tapit, set a record and became the most expensive Thoroughbred ever sold in Maryland at public auction, ringing the bell at the hefty sum of $850,000. He was consigned by Hobeau Farms of Florida, by agent Cary Frommer. In addition to the prices, other encouraging things about the sale were the significant reduction in the buy-back rate, and the establishment of the sale record. Reportedly, there were a "number of parties interested in that colt well in excess of $500,000." This demonstrates a surprisingly strong top-end market. It appears that good horses will always sell for good money, despite economic uncertainties.
